Woodstock Semillon Botrytis, McLaren Vale, Australia
Bright gold with tints of green. Attractive aromas of ripe pear, luscious apricot jam and orange marmalade. Summer flavours of ripe, semi-dried apricots, peaches and cream come to mind when tasting this wine. Although intensely sweet with a rich, luscious palate, the finish has a clean, lingering and balanced acidity.
The Woodstock winery is located in McLaren Vale, just south of Adelaide. Whilst it is very much an Australian producer, its name actually derives from England. In the quaint town of Woodstock in Oxfordshire stands a set of wooden leg stocks. A favourite from the Woodstock stable since 1984, this luscious wine is revered for its fine balance between sweetness and acidity. The wine is made from natural Botrytis (or “noble rot”) affected Semillon grapes, captured when most luscious on the vines and given minimal intervention.
